All Hail the Grubmaster!!

There are many roles on a camping trip. These roles are largely dictated by the nature, activities, and purpose of the trip. If there will be swimming, someone needs to be responsible for water safety, if heading into the backcountry someone needs to be responsible for wilderness first aid. More generally someone needs to be responsible for navigation, and general group leadership. These roles must be understood by the person with the role and acknowledged by the group. This understanding and competence by the one responsible and acknowledgment by the group will help move the group through conflicts (read storming) during your adventure. Of all the roles necessary for a trip a really, really, really important role is that of Grubmaster.

The grubmaster ensures every trip, outing or expedition includes meals that meet a few key criteria healthy, filling, and delicious. Healthy in that they replace the calories, burned with quality nutrients. Filling, in that they leave you with a feeling of satisfaction after a day of grit building exploring. Delicious because a delicious meal helps lift spirits after a day of hiking and climbing for miles, a warm meal is just what a hungry hiker needs.

Camp meals that are done right are akin to a magic spell with the power to lift spirits from exhaustion, forge bonds of friendship, open the gateway to dialog or just create an oasis from the trail.
